It's an automatic response that when we see a child playing with dirt, mud, or anything unclean and dirty, we say “Ewwww!” or “Yucky! Don’t play in the dirt!”
We always tell kids not to be messy and dirty. But the fact remains: THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. Kids want to explore, whether it be mud exploring, paint exploring, or anything that stains their hands. And it's OKAY. Here in Scienkidfic Xplorers, we let our explorers DO ANYTHING they want. We provide them with materials that usually at home, they won't be able to touch, like kitchenwares. We provide them materials that they haven't seen before, like lab materials. We provide them with materials that they are familiar with, and make them use it or play with it in different ways. But most of all, we give them materials that are MESSY! Paint, water, food coloring, salt, baking soda, you name it! With proper guidance, these kids will develop the sense of exploration and curiosity they are naturally born with when the grow up. ----------- "Don’t underestimate your kids’ explorative skills. By exploring –not the house of course- it discovers the world. Exploration boosts the imagination as well as creativity, social and physical skills. Well-developed physical skills result in a healthy body. Creativity will bring adaptability, and social skills will bring success and mental health. All those will eventually turn an active child, into a lively, successful healthy adult." ------------ Source: http://www.childcarelounge.com/parent-articles/get-dirty.php Photo by: Manny Villon
